Pop-ups

A fascination with pop-ups

I have always been fascinated by pop-up books and how a paper universe springs to life with the turn of a page.  After a visiting a particularly inspiring pop-up exhibition at the Auckland Central Library in 2019, I started tinkering with pop ups.

Sharing the wonder

Christmas pop-up workshop, 2020
While we were in lockdown, my colleagues started organising weekly 'social events' to provide a place and time to have fun and hang out together virtually. These continued even after the lockdown lifted in New Zealand and were a great way those of us still working remotely to join in the fun.

I was scheduled to organise an event with a colleague just before Christmas and we decided on a crafting activity.  I took this chance to share how easy and satisfying making a pop up could be. My co-organiser on the ground took care of preparing the materials and snacks while I put together some slides and ran the workshop through Zoom.

The journey continues - I continue to explore and play with different pop up mechanisms and applications.
